1. Prepare the Build Environment
Obtain the source code and set up rsyslog for log reception
Get the Source Code
Download the BitVisor 3.0 source archive from the Download page:
wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/bitvisor/files/bitvisor/3.0/bitvisor-3.0.tar.gz/download \
-O bitvisor-3.0.tar.gz
tar xzf bitvisor-3.0.tar.gz
cd bitvisor-3.0
To use the latest development version, clone the Mercurial repository:
hg clone http://hg.code.sf.net/p/bitvisor/code bitvisor-code
cd bitvisor-code
Prepare syslog (Recommended)
It is strongly recommended to configure rsyslog to receive log output from BitVisor over the network, so you can trace what is happening.
Edit /etc/rsyslog.conf
Enable UDP reception by adding one of the following:
# rsyslog v8+
module(load="imudp")
input(type="imudp" port="514")
# Legacy format
$ModLoad imudp
$UDPServerRun 514
Create a BitVisor-specific log file
Create /etc/rsyslog.d/10-bitvisor.conf:
:syslogtag, isequal, "bitvisor:" {
action(type="omfile" file="/var/log/bitvisor.log")
stop
}
Restart and verify
sudo service rsyslog restart
# Verify UDP port 514 is bound
ss -uln | grep 514
Expected output:
UNCONN 0 0 *:514 *:*
UNCONN 0 0 :::514 :::*
